Exclamation *~studying in Turkey!!~*

hello everyone!! i was recently accepted to study abroad in Turkey for an entire year. I am *very* excited..but also somewhat apprehensive. i would like to know about daily turkish life and more about turkish culture..i am looking forward to the culture shock from being in a very different country from America... but how am i suppose to act? what is okay, and what is unacceptable? are there any subject that are perhaps, "taboo"?...i will probably be placed in Izmir, so if anyone can give me any info about that city it would be much appreciated!!!
thanks for taking the time!!

Hi Viking,

You are coming to city where I live. There are many foreigners here, so i dont think that it will be hard to get used to live here for you. Izmir is one of the most beautiful city in Türkiye. You can check this link to have more information : http://www.izmirturizm.gov.tr/default.asp?L=EN . if you have any more questions you can get help from smyrniot users here.

hello there!
Izmir happens to be one of the best choices to live in, especially for a foreigner. I returned to Izmir after living in NYC for 7 years, and trust me, it was a big relief!
Large enough to keep you entertained, and considerably less chaotic compared to Istanbul and Ankara, the two largest cities in Turkey. It's also known for its religious tolerance; "infidel(gavur)" is the nickname given to the city by some who can't bear such relaxed attitude.
Let me know if you have any other questions. I'd be more than happy to help.
And once again, If you're definitely coming to Turkey, then Izmir is your best bet.
Bye Now!
